The Idler Academy
At the Idler Academy they run courses for a global community of creatives and free spirits. They teach philosophy, calligraphy, English grammar, ukulele, public speaking, singing, drawing, astronomy, martial arts, classical music, handwriting, business and more. They also run a programme of talks, supper clubs and parties. And they sell books.

The Bookshop Band UK Tour
The Bookshop Band are in Bradford-on-Avon on 26 February
The Bookshop Band write songs inspired by books and are bringing their uniquely-inspired and accomplished songs to bookshops throughout the UK. Since their first event in September 2010, the band has written over 70 songs inspired by 39 books from Andrew Miller’s “Pure” (2011 Costa Novel of the Year) to Rachel Joyce’s debut hit “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry”. They have recorded extensively, releasing four albums in their first year, with a further four due for release in late 2013. Following on from successful tours to Paris and Ireland already this year, The Bookshop band will be touring mainland UK this summer, playing over 30 dates in bookshops, literary festivals, music festivals and concert venues, including The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Foyles, Glastonbury Festival and the Edinburgh Book Festival.
Readathon is an ongoing initiative through which children undertake to read books, or do other literacy-based activities, in return for pledges of money from family and friends.
Participating groups are provided with sponsor forms, display materials and a teachers' guide, containing instructions, ideas and suggested activities. www.readathon.org
Spellathon is Mencap's national sponsored spelling challenge. It is open to children in mainstream and special schools, up to the age of 13 (key stage 3). Oxford University Press provides spelling lists linked to the National Curriculum and the Primary Framework for literacy. Funds raised will help the charity support people with a learning disability and the top fundraising school will receive a celebrity visit.
